Beginners Guide v2.0.0

Beginners Guide v 2.0.0
Part 1 – An Introduction to the Beginners Guide
By Transfixer

1.1: Introduction
Welcome young Gladiator to the guide that’ll make your life as a Gladiator so much easier. I am Transfixer, your teacher and an experienced Gladiator, and I will tell you a lot about the life you will have here in our community. I will explain the functions of every ingame button, but it won’t stop there. You will be instructed about the way Expeditions out of the city work, and I will prepare you for your fights in the Arena. I will teach you something about favours you can be asked to do, so called Quests, and I will instruct you how you should send a message. Furthermore, after hearing me, you will know how to manage a Guild and how to use the Community Forum in a correct way. I will even tell you how to get your equipment in a cheap way, though you shouldn’t tell somebody else, or they’ll get it!

Now, take a deep breath, this may take a while… But afterwards, you will have a lot of knowledge about the game. If you want to hear about a specific point, check the table of contents right underneath what you’re currently reading.

Beginners Guide v 2.0.0
Part 2 – An explanation about the Main Navigation
By Transfixer

2.1: Overview
The overview is a very important place for every user, be it an expert or a beginner. The overview allows you to view the statistics of your character, and it allows you to see your inventory and the equipment you are currently wearing. You will also be able to change your equipment here. If you have bought a new piece of equipment, you can now drag this piece of equipment into a spare space on your character view.
One more very important part of the game can only be done in this screen though – healing your character. Your Gladiator will heal X points an hour, which is affected by your Consitution, but next to that you are able to buy your Gladiator food, which restores X health points at the moment you have him eat it. To do so, drag the food you bought from your inventory to the picture in the overview. You will now see the health points being restored at once. Healing can only be done in the overview.

2.2: Messages
Messages allow you to communicate with other gladiators in your Province (A gameserver is called a province). However, sneakily hidden with the Messages, is the place where you can find your Packages, those will turn out to be really important!

Once you click the ‘Messages’ Button, you will see an overview screen. From here, you can navigate to your inbox or your packages, or, if you are a Premium user, you can manage your own folders here. If you decide to go to your Inbox, you will see all messages you have received and not yet deleted listed here. You can still open every message you received, by clicking on its name. If you received an item (For example, by buying it at the Market or as a reward), this will be stored in your Packages folder. Once you get there (Click the Packages button), you should be able to drag the item to your Inventory, as long as you still have space for it in the Inventory. You will not be able to use the item you received until you drag it into the Inventory!

As Premium user, you can manage your own folders here, so you can, for example, move all messages you received when working in the stable to a folder called ‘Stable Work’. At the moment I am writing this, you are not able to rename Folders, this is a known bug in the game.

2.3: Guild
A Guild is a group of players joining each other, for example promising not to fight each other or just to showoff how powerful they are. Anyway, once you click this button, you will be able to join a Guild or found your own. To find your own, you will have to be a Level 5 Gladiator – The game won’t let you found your guild otherwise. If you decide to join a Guild, just hit the ‘Search Guild’ button, and search a Guild. I strongly recommend you to take a look at the highscores first, they’re great to find a Guild which matches your strength.

If you found your own Guild, you’ll have to enter a Tag and a Name. Please remember spaces are not allowed.

Once you are in a Guild, your Guild Master will have given certain privileges to you – or not, ofcourse. Those privileges don’t really need an explanation, ‘show guild donations’ for example should speak for itself. However, I do feel like I should add a little something about the ranking system. You are, as Guild Master, nót able to change the default privileges. You can, however, create a new group which you can then give certain privileges. You can then move the users to this new group. To donate gold, or upgrade the Guild Building, you’ll have to use the ‘Guild Building’ Tab, it cannot be done from the main screen.

If you are in a Guild, you will also see a tab called ‘Guild Messages’. If you visit this, you will be able to see all message your Members wrote. Ofcourse, you can write a message there too. Once a message is there, it will not be removed until somebody with enough rights to do so does it manually.

The guild also have a library. The library is where the guild keep its precious scrolls. The scrolls can be obtained on expedition, they are, however, quite rare. When a scroll is found it is added to the guilds library by going to the library and drag teh scroll from the players inventory and onto the shelves of the library. Once the scroll is in the library every member of the guild with teh ability to spend guilds gold will be able to activate it, this will grand every member an additional add to stat/damage/hp for a certain duration of time. But be carefull with your uses of the scrolls, they have a limited amount uses.

2.4: Highscores
The Highscores allow you to see the highest ranked players and Guilds. You can sort them either on Honor or Raided Gold. In the case of players, you will be able to sort them on their Level, the amount of people they mugged or their wins or defeats in the Arena. If you visit the Guild tab, you’ll be able to sort based upon Members and Average Honor, in addition to the standards. The Highscores even offer you to search for a specific player, for example to take revenge on him, or just to see his stats. To do so, visit the ‘Search’ Tab located underneath the Highscores button. You may enter the Username, or even a Guild name or Tag here and hit ‘Search’. The Search for now requires you to use Capitals if the name includes them, and to nót use capitals if the name doesn’t use them either. You can use %partofname% to search for all users including ‘partofname’. For example, if you’d want to search for my name ingame, but you don’t know if I used a capital T or not, search for %fixer% to find me.

Beginners Guide v 2.0.0
Part 3 – Tavern, Quests and Expeditions
By Transfixer

First of all, I will give you a suggestion. Some users might not agree on this vision, but it really appears to work if you are not a premium user. And this suggestion is: Do not use your Expedition Points, unless you have a quest which requires you to do so.

In the Tavern, you will be able to take on Quests. You can choose between Easy, Standard or Hard Quests. You will notice Hard Quests give you more rewards, and have more parts to do. However, they will, of course, be harder to do too. You are also able to cancel the quest you are currently on, but will not receive a reward if you do. Some important things to know about quests:

What could you be asked to do?
 1. Get somebody an item. – To complete this quest, you have two options. The first, and probably the best in case of expensive items, is to do an expedition. You will then get the item you were sent out to get. Be sure to remove it from your Package and add it to your Inventory, or it won't work! Then return to the Tavern, or to another point the one who gave you the Quest wants you to go. However, if you were told to get some cheap item, you also have the possibility to buy it in the Market. It will still be delivered to your packages and you can still give it to the guy you’re supposed to return it to.
 2. Defeat a Gladiator in the Arena. – To complete this quest, go to the Arena and fight a Gladiator. After defeating him, go to the place the quest wants you to go. Please note: You should fight somebody from your ‘own placing’ list, not a gladiator much weaker than you are (exception made if those are actually in your own placing list ) .
 3. Explore one of the surrounding scenes. – To complete this quest, go out of the City to the Surroundings. Click the one you were told to examine. You should now get a short text which allows you to examine the area. After that, you'll either be fighting an opponent or have a countdown screen saying you’re examining it. If you do get to fight an opponent, you will have to defeat him to complete the quest.
 4. Defeat X Bandits/Deserters/etc. - This is most certainly the most difficult task you can get. You'll have to find out where you can find which opponent, and you'll have to defeat two of these opponents. After you did so, return to the Tavern to get your reward. I will include a table saying who is to be found where right after this one.
 5. Speak with somebody in the city. - The guy in the Tavern uses difficult names to describe the one you should be looking for, but if you just click every button in the city, you will find the one you're looking for. Once you did, read what they have to tell you and then click 'continue'.

Where can I find which enemy?
 • Deserter: Bandit-Camp or Barbarian Village but also appears other places
 • Harpy: Mist Mountains
 • Wolf: Wolf Cave
 • Barbarian: Barbarian Village
 • Bandit: Bandit Camp
 • Pirate: Pirate Harbour
 • Guard: Ancient Temple

Mobs after lvl 21:
 • Traitor: Bandit-Camp or Barbarian Village but also appears other places
 • Medusa: Mist Mountains but also appear in other places
 • Wolf: Wolf Cave
 • flesh hunter: Bandit Camp
 • Bodyguard: Ancient Temple

Which places do the names I get in the Quest mean?
 • Stable-Lad: Stable
 • Master of the Arena: Arena
 • Publican: Tavern
 • Trainer: Training
 • Auctioneer: Auction Building
 • Mountebank: Market

Some items can only be found on certain Enemies. These are the ones I know of:
 • Long finger of a Bandit: Bandit
 • Stolen Casket: Bandit
 • Wolf Tooth: Wolf
 • Bone Necklace: Barbarian
 • Sugilith Pendant: Guard

I just completed a Quest. How long will it take before I can take on another one?
 • Easy Quests: 2 hours since you started the Quest.
 • Standard Quests: 4 hours since you started the Quest.
 • Hard Quests: 6 hours since you started the Quest.

Of course, you could decide to go on an Expedition without being on a quest too. After all, it will still get you Experience, Honor and Gold. Those, my young friend, are what you’re going to need most. You go on an Expedition by clicking the Land Map you see underneath your main navigation in the left panel. Once you do so, you can choose the place where you want to go on the Expedition. (Mist Mountains, Dark Woods, Barbarian Village, Bandit Camp, Pirate Harbour or Wolf Cave.) On the right of your screen, you will now see 'Expedition points: X / 12' - If this amount is 0 or 1, you will have to wait an hour until you get a new expedition point. If this amount is higher than 1, you'll be able to go on an Expedition. To do so, click one of the screens underneath this text. You will now be on an Expedition. The longer Expeditions will cost you more Expedition Points, but will also get you a larger reward if you successfully complete them.

So, how long does an Expedition take, and how much Expedition Points does it take?
For normal users:
 • Short: 2 Expedition Points, 10 Minutes
 • Middle: 4 Expedition Points, 20 Minutes
 • Long: 6 Expedition Points, 30 Minutes

For Premium users:
 • Short: 1 Expedition Points, 5 Minutes
 • Middle: 2 Expedition Points, 10 Minutes
 • Long: 3 Expedition Points, 15 Minutes

If you ran out of Expedition points, you should not worry. You will receive a new Expedition Point every hour. If you manage to win against your Expedition opponent, you will receive Honor, Gold and even Experience Points. Completing a Quest will get you those too though, and you will get more when completing a Quest. You might also receive an item as a reward. If you do, this item can be found in your Packages section. You will be able to use the item after dragging it into your Inventory, as explained in the ‘Messages’ section.

Beginners Guide v 2.0.0
Part 4 – The Arena
By Transfixer

The Arena is the part of the game where players can directly fight each other. The Arena has its very own ranking, which is based on your level. When you have just started you will start in the lowest legue, and will be placed after your joining number, but once you get over level 10 you will be free of all the level 1 and 2 accounts. Each legue has its own champion who will get a bonus each hour, and if you can claim the champions place you will also be rewarded with the jackpot $$. However, you should know, young gladiator, that there is only one way to work your way up though the Arena Ranking, and that is the hard way. You cannot just attack any Gladiator ranked high above you and take over his position. You should know too that, the higher you get up the ladder, the less Gladiators you will be able to attack in your own placing list. However, if you’re looking for a nice amount of Gold, you can always attack one of the players at the top of the Highscores list. They’ll usually have a fairly nice amount of Gold on them.

To do so, you have to enter the Gladiators name into the ‘Search for certain player’ field you will see on the Arena page. This will cost you 10 Gold though. Additionally, you might encounter a message like ‘Your enemy is too weak to fight at this moment’, a message you should not encounter when wanting to fight somebody from your own placing list.

What? You wonder why you should do all this? For the Gold of course! Every Arena Fight will grant you some gold, while some against opponents of a higher level will even get you Experience and Honor. You do not receive Gold always though. Your opponent might have so little gold that you cannot even raid a bit. You’ll usually raid about 10-15% of his Gold.

If you are attacked in the Arena yourself, you’ll probably lose a lot of Life Points and some of your Gold. I should warn you – If you’re doing a quest, you might not even be noticed he attacked you. Don’t fear though, you will not die here, no Gladiator would be weak enough to kill you, and no Expedition Opponent will either.

Beginners Guide v 2.0.0
Part 5 – The Shops
By Transfixer

In the Stable, you can work for money and experience. The most important of these should be the money, as you can in this way earn a lot of money while you’re not at your computer. This will turn out to be very useful later on, as, when you get online again, you’ll suddenly have lots of gold to spend. You can, for example, spend this on the Shops, the Market or the Auction Building.

When in the Stable, your income changes once your level does. You can have the following jobs:
 1. Level 1: Muckboy – 40 Gold / Hour
 2. Level 3: Stable-Lad – 80 Gold / Hour
 3. Level 7: Menial – 160 Gold / Hour
 4. Level 15: Stablehand – 320 Gold / Hour
 5. Level 31: Horse Trainer – 640 Gold / Hour

You will only get paid if you complete the hours you planned to work!

The Shops and their owners will be very valuable to you as Gladiator. If you want to win against other Gladiators or strange enemies encountered on Expeditions, you are going to need a good equipment, which you can buy at the Weapon Smith, the Armour Smith, the General Goods Store and the Alchemist.
-The weapon smith sells weapons.
-The armour smith sells shield, chest armour and helmets.
-The General Goods Store sells food, jewellery (rings and amulets), gloves/bracers and shoes.
-The Alchemist sells you boosts, which you can drink 1 time to get a bonus for a duration of time, and upgrade stuff to permanently add some stats to your gear. If you wish to remove a permanent add on some of your gear you have to buy detergent sponge to remove it.
You can buy items at the Market or the Auction Building too, as I will explain to you in the next lesson. In this lesson, you will get to know what you should buy where, and where you can dump stuff you no longer need.

First of all, you should know there are 2 different kinds of items. There are the items around your level, which you can buy for Gold, without having to pay the rare Rubies. However, if you want to buy a really strong item at the Smiths / Shop, you will have to buy them using both Rubies and Gold. That does mean though that, when you raise some levels, you will be able to buy these items without having to pay Rubies.

To buy an item, you first have to get yourself enough Gold and/or Rubies, because the item will not stay in your inventory once you dragged it over there otherwise. Once you acquired enough gold, you have to go to the place you want to go, and drag the item you want to buy towards your inventory. You can now move items around from your character to your inventory and the other way around to get your new shiny item in the best place.

You can also sell your items to the shop / smiths owners. To do so, get to the third page in the shops inventory. The third page is the one marked ‘III’ (Roman for 3). This page should be empty, and you will be able to drag any of your items, except for quest items, in here. You will now receive an amount of gold equal to the Value your item had. Selling items at the Market will get you more gold most times though.

This is because, if you decide to put something for sale on the market, you can decide the price you want to sell it for. As long as this is lower than the price people can buy it for in the shops, you should be able to sell them for quite a bit more than it’s value, as the shop price is around 3 or 4 times the items value.

However, for players searching for a new item, the Market is still cheaper than the shop most times, and it features way more items. You can sort them on the kind of item you’re looking for, and once you did that, you can also sort them on price. This way, you are able to find the item you are looking for quite fast, even though the Market doesn’t really have a good overview for now.

If you need a really good item, you can use the Auction Building too. It sometimes offers really good items, but you will be competing with other users to get the item. If somebody else offers more gold for the item then you do, you will not get the item, and you will not receive your gold back either! You can, however, buy the item using Rubies and Gold to make sure you get the powerful item you want. If you want to use the Auction Building, you should be aware of the risks!

Part 6 – Premium and Rubies
By Transfixer

Some people might like it, others will not. However, a Browsergame needs it own server, which has to be paid for. This is why GameForge offers Premium accounts to its users instead of killing them with Advertisements. What do you get with such a Premium Account?
 • As soon as the premium account is activated you will get a one-time daily wage (depending on your level)
 • Instead of being blocked for 15 minutes in the arena, you only have to wait 5 minutes
 • Instead of 12 expedition points, you can gain up to 24 expedition points
 • The duration of expeditions and their cost is halved
 • You have an additional pocket for your inventory
 • Better message menu (messages in other folders)
 • Ignorelist for player emails
 • You can support the game with the premium account

A Premium Account will cost you about €3,- a month.

Next, GameForge also offers its users the possibility to buy Rubies. Rubies can be very useful to you, and if you want to use great weapons before others get them, Rubies are the solution for you. You can also use rubies to buy items at the Auction Building without losing your gold because somebody else bid a little bit more. You will not be able to find Rubies in the game itself, and other users cannot pay you with them. As such, the only way to get them, is to pay real money, which ones again helps to keep the game AD-FREE!

Well, my young friend, you are ready to start your life as a Gladiator now. If you still have questions, please visit our community at the forum you are currently reading, and our staff will be more than happy to help you with your problems.

Good luck in your life as Gladiator in the Ancient Roman World, and may the Gods be with you!
